| Preventive Treatment |
For patients with healthy teeth
and gums, we recommend periodic appointments with our hygienist,
and examination by one of our dentists in order to detect dental
problems at the earliest stage. |
| Restorations (fillings) |
- are provided as necessary.
We have no policy to replace all the silver-mercury fillings a person
may have, but we will replace them as they become defective or as
decay forms near them. The choices of filling materials do not include
mercury-type fillings, but only bonded tooth-coloured fillings or
onlays (white or gold). |
| Crowns |
- sometimes the best form of
restoration where decay is extensive, the present old restoration
is very large (and is now defective), or on a tooth weakened due
to the need for root canal treatment. Crowns are both strong and
esthetic. |
| Cosmetic Dentistry |
- a topic spoken about a lot
these days. Whitening is in high demand and we have great success
at it. Over-the-counter products don’t help much, whereas our technique
does... and we guarantee it! Porcelain veneers can also be done
on teeth that are discoloured, chipped, worn or slightly crooked.
We offer no-charge second opinions for people who can’t decide what
to do and can sometimes simulate the treatment on a computer. |
| Periodontal (gum) Treatment |
- strongly recommended for patients
whose gums are bleeding, receding or coming away from the tooth.
Dr. Hunt lectures in Canada and the U.S. on the early treatment
of gum disease. He discusses the use of a non-surgical treatment
known as Soft Tissue Management.
Gum disease is the silent killer of teeth since it can loosen them. |
| Orthodontic Treatment |
- is quite commonplace these
days. It seems most children between 11 and 14 are displaying braces.
Our office provides full orthodontic treatment for most problems
at a reasonable fee, or we will refer complicated cases to specialists.
| Endodontic Treatment (Root
Canal) |
- unfortunately this is needed
on occasion. This could be due to tooth decay near the nerve, or
due to an injury. Often it is the last resort course of treatment
before tooth extraction becomes necessary. |
| Extractions |
- can be done as absolutely
the last resort. Many can be done in this practice, but we refer
some patients if we anticipate complications or are concerned about
the patient’s overall health. |
| Sedation |
- will be offered if you are
apprehensive. Nitrous oxide is effective and safe for any type of
treatment if you want it. For patients who want to be totally anesthetized
(asleep) for all of their treatment, we have a referral source available.
| Tooth Replacement |
- is offered with bridges which
are cemented to the adjacent teeth, or with dentures which are removable.
It is important to replace most missing teeth so that the other
teeth do not drift apart and eventually become loosened. |
